In the last four years, suicide deaths in Kentucky have exceeded that of the national average for people of color. There are five factors that can contribute to this rise in communities of color.

1.            The pressure to fit in which as been ramped up through social media.

2.            The stigma around mental health

3.            Lack of accessible treatment

4.            Racism and Discrimination

5.            Exposure to violence

This increase of suicide among our communities of color are multifactorial.  Suicide is a preventable public health problem, the TRC Expansion, through the Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, will be offering 100 free therapy session, through Martin and Muir Counseling, Inc, in the month of October, with the focus on Trauma Therapy, which is designed to address the five factors that is contributing to the increase in suicide rates, and provide cognitive behavioral therapy, and grief counseling; all aimed at alleviating the barriers to treatment.
